Who am I

Hi there! I’m Chaplain Tim Spears—but please, just call me Tim or Chaps.

I come from a proud Navy family with deep military roots. My grandfather was a Navy frogman who served in WWII and Vietnam as part of the Underwater Demolition Team, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit, and as a Seabee. My dad was a Marine artillery officer who later worked in electronic warfare at the NSA. And my brother? A Marine aviator who piloted CH-46 helicopters. So yes—military life runs in the blood!

As for me, I earned a Master of Divinity from a Baptist seminary and a Master of Theology from a Presbyterian seminary. Since 2013, I’ve been in full-time ministry, serving in a variety of places—prison ministries, overseas missions in Asia as a seminary professor, and here in the U.S. as both a pastor and adjunct professor. My experience spans both denominational and interdenominational settings, which has shaped my deep love for connecting across backgrounds.

One thing I’ve come to treasure in ministry is the power of presence. Being a chaplain isn’t about lofty speeches or mountaintop wisdom—it’s about being with people, just as Christ was with us. He didn’t shout at us from the heavens to climb up to Him—He came down, walked among us, laughed, ate, drank, cried, and suffered with and for us. That’s the heart of chaplaincy: showing up, listening, walking alongside others, and offering the hope of the gospel.

So whether you’re a believer, a skeptic, or someone from another faith tradition—I’d love to connect. I especially enjoy conversations about theology, family and kids, military life, history, dogs, sports, fitness, and anything outdoors.

Drop me a message—let’s grab a cup of coffee and chat!
